Dr. Tigran Tahmizyan has graduated from the Tchaikovsky School of Music, a special school for talented music students in the former USSR , with a diploma in theory and piano performance. He continued his studies at the Komitas Conservatory and in 1984 received his Bachelor Degree in Composition.

After moving to the United States Dr. Tahmizyan continued his music education at the University of Southern California ( USC ) Thornton School of Music from which he graduated with a Master's degree in Composition, later going on to earn a Ph. D in Composition from the University of California of Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Tahmizyan's works have been performed by renowned performers and conductors such as Zaven Vartanyan and Nodar Shubladze, and world-famous ensembles such as the Chilingaryan String Quartet and Kronos Quartet, while he himself has performed as a pianist in various recitals and cultural events. He is also a recipient of many composition awards both in the former USSR and the United States .
