
Flute
Patricia Lawson earned her BA from Houghton College and continued studies in music at Canadian Bible College. She began teaching flute in 1983 in the USA, Central and South America, and is active in the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC), serving as President for the Whittier Branch, chair for flute events, editor, and as a Board member.
Through the Certificate of Merit program, her students consistently earn honors and/or the privilege to perform at the annual MTAC convention.
Ms. Lawson has performed in flute ensembles in California (recently as a bass flutist in the Jewel City Flute Choir), directed ensembles in several states and in South America, performed in classical symphony orchestras, folk ensembles, community bands, woodwind quintets, and Toni Dulci Baroque Ensemble. She has studied traverso flute with internationally known Janet See, and with Kathie Stewart, flutist of Apollo’s Fire.
In addition to teaching, Ms. Lawson plays baroque flute in Trio á Due Flauti, which has performed at the Baroque Northwest Baroque Flute Seminar in Seattle, WA, and at the 76th Annual Bach Festival, and is also the principal flutist/piccoloist in the Praise Symphony Orchestra (PSO), where she has played for 21 years.
Ms. Lawson’s silver and wooden C flutes, piccolo, alto, and bass flutes can be heard on several jazz-style recordings; on recordings with PSO; on the Toni Dulci Baroque Ensemble recording, Flute Sonatas; and on a solo jazz album, Flute Smoothie.
