Dr. Hovhanness Alanakyan
received his Master’s Degree in Music Performance from the Yerevan State Conservatory his Doctorate from the University of Alabama. During this time, he developed his stage and performance expertise through numerous recitals and performances, both solo and with orchestras.

At the age of 11, he played Vivaldi Sonata for Cello and the Rococo Variations by Tchaikovsky with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Alanakyan has won 1st prize at the “Amadeus” Music Competition and the Kchachaturyan National Competition and 2nd prize at the Lisa Foundation Chamber Music Competition. His notable successes in competitions has granted him multiple performances at the Yerevan Philharmonic Hall, one of the most famous concert halls in the former USSR. Dr. Alanakyan has education and practical experience in a
wide range of classical and contemporary compositions and has performed throughout the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. More recently, Musical Beginnings program through the West Alabama Independent Music Conservatory.

Throughout his career as a performer, he has been a consistently active educator in both private and institutional settings including faculty positions at Sayat-Nova School of Music and Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan. The wide range of exposure and experience with people and cultures has fostered a capable educational quality within Dr. Alanakyan. His highly developed method includes inspiring students’ appreciate of music, building confidence, and a relationship with their instrument. Dr. Alanakyan firmly believes that - including technical proficiency – approaching each student individually is a key to their success.
